Before I Go Down
04:15
|
|||
Before I Go Down
some people never get the chance to really shine
some people never know what they’re lookin for
I wanna take you by the hand while there’s still time
I might not get another chance before
I go down, I go down, I go down
some people never find the words to put things right
I mean they bottle up until they nearly explode
I wanna talk about it all with you tonight
I wanna lay it all down before
I go down, I go down, I go down
baby come with me, we’ll take it, take it, take it slow
if we never try honey then we’ll never know
it’s so beautiful how could I just walk away?
and go down, and go down, and go down, and go down, and go
some people always seem so bogged down in the mud
some people never wanna wade in from the shore
it’s time to jump into the tide taken at the flood
into the shimmerin sea before
I go down, I go down, I go down, I go
baby come with me, we’ll take it, take it, take it slow
if we never try honey then we’ll never know
it’s so beautiful how could I just walk away?
and go down, and go down, and go down, and go
all the way, all the way
some people always wanna look the other way
but baby some things are just too big to ignore
I ain’t afraid I’m gonna die some lonesome day
I’m just afraid of being dead before
I go down, I go down, I go down, I go
baby come with me, we’ll take it, take it, take it slow
if we never try honey then we’ll never know
it’s so beautiful how could I just walk away?
and go down, and go down, and go down, and go down

Miss Seattle

Miss Seattle
there’s a girl out west in the pourin rain
with a purplish tinge that she can’t explain
Miss Seattle it’s all a piece of what brings me to my knees
and there’s a break in the clouds that I’m flyin through
every damn week just to look at you
Miss Seattle you’re soakin in through all three layers of skin
the only uncool thing about you I can see is me
there’s a girl out west that I’m dreamin of
with a thrift store style that you know I love
Miss Seattle you stole my heart in your Value Village cart
and everyone in the street that you run into
grows another inch all thanks to you
Miss Seattle it suits you well, you got style oh I can tell
the only uncool thing about you I can see is me
bound on the beach with a look so delighted
never really touchin the ground
me with my heart on my sleeve unrequited
happy just hangin around
yeah I could lose, I could lose like a mother
givin up before I begin
or I could try, I could try to discover
what makes her head spin, makes it
there’s a girl out west yeah as I’ve been sayin
soakin in the tub with the music playin
Miss Seattle it’s so unfair that you’re livin way out there
but there’s a break in the clouds that I’m prayin to
every damn day to god knows who
Miss Seattle I’m closin in on your sweet satanic grin
the only uncool thing about you I can see is me
bound on the beach with a look so delighted
never really touchin the ground
me with my heart on my sleeve unrequited
happy just hangin around
yeah I could lose, I could lose like a mother
givin up before I begin
or I could try, I could try to discover
what makes her head spin, makes it
makes it spin
makes it spin
makes it spin

Blake Street
02:43
|

Blake Street
on Blake Street she had a rock in her shoe for awhile
on Blake Street down about a quarter of a mile
I didn’t know her when she was livin in Denver
but by her own account it was probably better that way
she worked like a miner on the sadness inside her
down in a hole everyday
pick and a shovel she was poundin the rubble
the dust was so thick that it was makin her choke
chronic angina almost halfway to China
just how far would that rabbit hole go?
on Blake Street she had a rock in her shoe for awhile
on Blake Street down about a quarter of a mile
back on the surface little brother was nervous
so he came in from Florida to see for himself
and painted the factory that she shared with nobody
with some paints he found on a shelf
but wrapped in a sweater, well, he wasn’t much better
and neither one shared all the trouble they’d seen
yeah, with everything burning and Saturn returning
she would just have to roll up her sleeves
on Blake Street she had a rock in her shoe for awhile
on Blake Street down about a quarter of a mile
all in, fallin down
on the way, all the way down
clinical, chemical down
natural, beautiful down
cryin and cursin and her lungs nearly burstin
her spirit was strong though she’d lost a lot of weight
finally defeated her defenses retreated
left her alone at the gate
now some think depression’s a cry for attention
and every emotion’s gotta have it’s say
well, she made it to China, now that’s all behind her
yeah, that was way back in the day
on Blake Street she had a rock in her shoe for awhile
on Blake Street down about a quarter of a mile
on Blake Street, down on Blake
on Blake Street, down on Blake

It's A Dream
03:56
|
|||
It’s A Dream
I was livin alone with nobody of my own
but I started to dream when your picture hit the screen
one long shot in the dark outside the bookstore on the park
and I started to beam when you bounded over to me
over to me
and it’s a dream, it’s a dream
yeah it’s a dream, it’s a dream, it’s a dream, it’s a dream
we wandered about annihilating any doubt
then you started to lean ever after into me
into me
and it’s a dream, it’s a dream
yeah it’s a dream, it’s a dream, it’s a dream, it’s a dream
or is this heaven I’m in?
should I believe more in him?
please never wake me from this
just let me sleep in your arms perfectness
oh look at us now, little baby’s on the prowl
she’s lost in the dream, like her mother, like me
like me
and it’s a dream, it’s a dream
yeah it’s a dream
it’s a dream
it’s a dream
it’s a dream

Born To Live

Born To Live
I wanna live it with you, I wanna live it in two
I wanna live it, live, live it in every way
I wanna live it tonight, just wanna live it, alright
I wanna throw myself into the fray
I wanna live it and then I wanna live it again
I wanna push it out like I was one of you
live it, come on, like Iggy singin a song
just wanna live, live, live, like I was born to live
like I was born to live
I wanna jump off a fence, don’t have to make any sense
just wanna jump, jump, jump, and take you with me
into the fire, oh baby, out on a wire
I wanna light it up and watch it burn
don’t wanna lay me to rest, I wanna live it to death
I wanna grind it down until it’s sore
so honey, let go the wheel, ’cause baby now it’s for real
I wanna rip the brakes right off the fuckin floor
like I was born to live, like I was born to live
like I was born to live
don’t wanna live in my head, I wanna touch it instead
I wanna run my hand along the seam
I wanna feel every curve ’cause now I’m hittin a nerve
want you to bite my lip and watch it bleed
I wanna live it with you, I wanna live it I do
I wanna live it, live it, live it, in every way
I wanna live it tonight, just wanna live it, alright
I wanna live, live, live like I was born to live
like I was born to live
like I was born to live
like I was born
like I was born to live

Electrical Reasons

|

Electrical Reasons
she had electrical reasons, she had electrical fears
she had electrical seasons, she had electrical years
I didn’t know what was comin when she said,
“honey, welcome to my world”
oh my baby, my baby girl
she had electrical friends and electrical fans
she didn’t follow the trends, she never got with the plan
she was my favorite obsession, a little mystery to unfurl
oh my baby, my baby girl
don’t matter to her if she can’t sing, she’s gonna sing it anyway
don’t matter to her what you all think, she’s gonna blow you all away
what matters to her ain’t of this earth, it comes from far away
electricity, it’s a mystery
she had electrical poise, she had electrical cool
she didn’t bother with boys, yeah she was nobody’s fool
I sang the body electric as she moved me slowly under hers
oh my baby, my baby girl
don’t matter to her if she can’t sing, she’s gonna sing it anyway
don’t matter to her what you all think, she’s gonna blow you all away
what matters to her ain’t of this earth, it comes from far away
electricity, it’s a mystery
she had electrical towers, she built electrical dams
fifty megawatt hours in the palms of her hands
she never mentioned the wires I noticed growin out of her
oh my baby, my baby girl
don’t matter to her if she can’t sing, she’s gonna sing it anyway
don’t matter to her what you all think, she’s gonna blow you all away
what matters to her ain’t of this earth, it comes from far away
electricity, it’s a mystery
electricity, it’s a mystery, it comes from far away
electricity, electricity, she’s gonna blow you all away
electricity, electricity
electricity, it’s a mystery

Jealousy
04:09
|
|||
Jealousy
I was loathe to let it show
but I could not let it go
I was blind but I could see
blind with jealousy
you might say it affects me more than you
and I can’t control what others may do
yeah I know it’s all a matter of degrees
but baby please
there was somethin in the air
the way he touched you there
was it real or was it me
or just good old jealousy?
but I swear I saw a twinkle in your eye
and that feelin in my stomach don’t lie
now I’m beggin for a little courtesy
I’m on my knees
is this really all just make-believe?
’cause I ain’t crazy, not yet baby please
baby please
you say it was okay
baby it was only play
and flirtin ain’t a crime
right up to the line
you might say it affects me more than some
and I’d love to figure out just where it’s from
but it’s hard to see the forest for the trees
the way you tease
the lady doth protest
a bit too much I guess
but all it really means
is she’s as scared as me
jealousy
jealousy
jealousy
jealousy

Same Old Story
03:27
|

Same Old Story
out in the kitchen, turn on the radio
there ain’t no good songs they ever play so
hop on the subway up to Delancey
makin my way through Alphabet City
listen to Tom play vinyl on Sunday
funny how quickly it turns into Monday
I see you walk in, alligator
maybe someday I’ll see you later
I’m ready to feel, I’m ready to fight
I’m ready for love but it’s gotta be right
I don’t wanna just fall into the same old story
in my apartment starin at YouTube
there’s gotta be somethin better to do
takin a walk down by the Gowanus
the smell a reminder that summer’s upon us
I get a text sayin, ‘check out the full moon’
I’m lookin up but maybe too soon?
god I want you, god almighty
god I hope your mom’ll like me
I’m ready to feel, I’m ready to fight
I’m ready for love but it’s gotta be right
I don’t wanna just fall into the same old story
I’m back on my feet, yeah, back on my toes
I’m back on the street now anythin goes
I don’t wanna just fall into the same old story
I may bend but I won’t break, I won’t make the same mistakes
when it comes to love again
I may run into a wall, I’m a human after all
a fool for love until the end
out in the evenin, out on the front lines
careful not to step on the land mines
out with a flashlight, out with a purpose
down on the sidewalk scratchin the surface
then I see you, fascinator
waitin for me, alligator
now we’re talkin, now we’re lookin
now let’s get our asses back into Brooklyn
I’m ready to feel, I’m ready to fight
I’m ready for love, but it’s gotta be right
I don’t wanna just fall into the same old story
I’m back on my feet, yeah, back on my toes
I’m back on the street now anything goes
I don’t wanna just fall into the same old story
same old story
same old story
same old story

You Didn't Know Me
03:35
|
|||
You Didn’t Know Me
you didn’t know me, I can see it in your eyes
it’s that look of mistrust interwoven with surprise
you got a vision I’m the devil in disguise
you knew me but you didn’t know
you didn’t know me, yeah I think it’s pretty clear
baby with there’s a blind spot ringin in your ear
that drowns out the words that would move you dear
you knew me but you didn’t know me
you didn’t know me, I can hear it in your voice
just a note, and I quote, “you’re like every other boy”
someday baby you’ll just have to make a choice
you knew me but you didn’t know
you didn’t know me, even scientists agree
it takes about a year to clear out the debris
of every other lover that’s been down our street
you knew me but you didn’t know me
well I’m no angel and you’re no baby blue
but are you ready for me, baby, and am I ready for you?
you didn’t know me, yeah I think it’s fair to say
there’s a lotta fear gettin in the way
come on baby put your fingers in the clay
you knew me but you didn’t know
you didn’t know me, it’s okay you didn’t know
we mighta started walkin, there’s still so far to go
it doesn’t scare me, no it only goes to show
you knew me but you didn’t know me

On The Attack
I love you baby, I love that we met
I love you baby, how much you wanna bet?
I love you baby, don’t you ever forget
I love you baby
I love you baby, right from the start
I love you baby, right in the heart
I love you baby, ’til death do us part
I love you baby, I love you baby
I love you baby, down at the bar
I love you baby, in back of the car
I love you baby, right wherever you are
I love you baby
I love you baby, out on the town
I love you baby, just paddin around
I love you baby, yeah I worship the ground
I love you baby, I love you baby
ah you got yourself a plan
make me a better man
yeah I know you make your bed in heaven
meanwhile I’m rollin lucky sevens
I love you baby, on the attack
I love you baby, or flat on your back
I love you baby, it’s a matter of fact
I love you baby
I love you baby, it’s outta control
I love you baby, just so you know
I love you baby, body and soul
I love you baby, I love you baby
ah but times are tough
most days just can't seem to get enough
you know I miss you when you're not around
with your mama’s brown eyes
and your sister’s old hand-me-downs
you know what I’m gonna do for you?
I’m gonna make you some rice and beans
sweet plantains and collard greens
yeah girl I got your breakfast on
goddamn, goddamn
I love you baby, on the attack
I love you baby, on the attack
I love you baby, on the attack
I love you baby, I love you baby

Someone Like You
04:37
|

Someone Like You
I won’t be the one that runs away
this time baby I’m inclined to stay with you
I won’t make you cry, I won’t make you cry
I’ll just stay by your side
I won’t be the one that lies to you
what’s the point if I can’t tell the truth to you?
I won’t make you guess, I won’t make you guess
I’ll just say it like it is
’cause you don’t need another boy sitting on your fence
you don’t need another boy pleading his defense
and I have waited all my life just to find someone like you
I won’t be the one you have to fight
I’ll just be your one love satellite
and I won’t float away, I won’t float away
I’ll keep spinning around you, babe
’cause you don’t need another boy you dated in your past
you don’t need me to tell you that ain’t going to last
and I have waited all my life just to find someone like you
I won’t be the one that leaves you flat
no I’ve forgotten all I know when it comes to that
I will stick around, I will be your friend
thick as glue me and you
’cause you don’t need another boy messing up your plans
you don’t need another boy, you just need a man and I say
I just want to love you baby, ’cause there’s no one above you baby
I’ll give you the best of me if you’ll forgive the rest of me
I won’t be the one to break your heart
but we can put it back together for a start
and I won’t be afraid, I won’t be afraid
’cause I have waited all my life just to find someone like you
oh I’ve been waiting my whole life just to find someone like you
someone like you, someone like you, someone like you

Arms
04:20
|
|||
drivin to my baby’s house, another quarter mile
thinkin of her Andalusian smile
she gets me so wound up like a puppet on a string
yeah I think I’m onto something big
arms around my baby, hers surroundin me
I think she could save me, so does she
out there is a world of trouble, I don’t even care
all is well ’cause baby’s over there
lyin on the sofa wearin nothin but a grin
yeah I think tonight we’re stayin in
arms around my baby, hers surroundin me
I think she could save me, so does she, so does
she defies my comprehension
welcome to the fourth dimension
way beyond relativity
young and brutish, dumb and foolish, always in the right
then one day you wake and see the light
someone out there sent the answer to your little prayers
now you got your baby standin there
arms around my baby, hers surroundin me
I think she could save me and now we’re gonna see
who cares if she’s crazy? I guess crazy’s what I need
I don’t need to find a reason to believe
